Based on the constitution of North Rhine-Westphalia, the federal state government promotes sport and supports the development of a cohesive and effective sport sector. As part of the state government, the MFKJKS is responsible for delivering an effective sport policy which is guided by basic principles: the autonomy of sport, the subsidiarity of sport funding and the cooperation with sport organisations. Amongst other sport policy goals, one key theme is related to health benefits through sport and physical activity. Therefore, the MFKJKS aims at creating healthy lifestyle choices and at increasing opportunities for all citizens to participate in physical activity. The MFKJKS also recognises the potential and values inherent in sport as it is evident that sport benefits society through building communities, public spirit and educational outcomes. Following this principle the MFKJKS decided to support ACE. Its support will also open a new possibility of effective dissemination activities on (national and European) political level.
